Wine tasting: understanding tastes to better choose your wine

In my opinion, wine tasting is the best way to discover a wine.
But above all, it's the best way to understand people's reactions when they taste it.

It is at this precise moment that everything happens:
A smile, a surprise, sometimes a disappointment.
And that's where we realize something essential: wine is a matter of taste .

The same wine can be extremely appealing to one person… and not at all to another person.
It's neither a question of price nor of level of knowledge.
It's simply a matter of taste sensitivity .

What I observe during WINESUD tastings

At WINESUD, I spend a lot of time giving wine tastings.
At trade shows, events or private tastings.

By observing the reactions, one conclusion became clear:
👉 tastes are not a matter of chance .

Very often, people are looking for the same sensations:
freshness, roundness, power, balance…
These reactions keep coming back, again and again.

Why I chose to talk about taste profiles

Rather than using complicated names or technical vocabulary, I preferred a simpler approach:
group people according to what they actually feel in their mouth .

This is how the WINESUD taste profiles were born.
They don't tell you what you should like, but describe what you naturally like.

The 6 taste profiles I identified

🍷 In red

  • Light & fruity : supple, fresh, easy-drinking wines

  • Balanced & versatile : harmonious wines, suitable for all occasions

  • Structured & powerful : intense, deep wines with character

🥂 In white

  • Fresh & fruity : lively, aromatic and thirst-quenching wines

  • Mineral & dry : straightforward, taut and elegant wines

  • Rich & round : more generous, enveloping and luscious wines

Understanding your palate better changes everything

Identifying your taste profile helps avoid many mistakes.
We make better choices, we understand better, and above all… we enjoy ourselves more.

For me, understanding one's palate is the foundation for truly appreciating wine.

👉 Discover your taste profile and let me guide you towards wines that truly reflect you.
